October 18th Vikings game barred from airing on WFRV, allowed on U.P. sister station
Green Bay based Brett Favre fans without DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket are being sidelined again by NFL blackout rules.
Because Green Bay is playing a home game on FOX, WFRV is not allowed to air Sunday's Minnesota Vikings game on CBS.
"WFRV would love to carry the game, but NFL rules prohibit us from doing so against a home Green Bay Packers game," says Perry Kidder, WFRV station manager. "Viewers of our sister station, WJMN, will be able to see the game, because they are in the upper Peninsula. The NFL considers the Detroit Lions their home team. NFL just does not allow us to air the game here."
The situation is similar to one a few weeks ago that prevented WLUK from airing a FOX-produced Minnesota game because the Packers were playing on CBS.

WFRV moving US Open final to cable in favor of regular daytime programming
WFRV says they are opting to air the season premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show and other regularly-scheduled syndicated programming this afternoon, and tennis coverage will instead appear on Time Warner Cable's local sports network on channel 32.
Those without cable can also watch live streaming coverage of the final on the internet by going to www.usopen.org.

WLUK carrying at least six Vikings games
Last season, WFRV carried as many New York Jets games as possible to tap into the leftover Favre fan-base in Northeast Wisconsin. With Favre suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings, WLUK will be picking up that torch, though not as often as WFRV could.
According to WHBY, WLUK will carry at least six Vikings games this season and may also pick up a seventh if they opt to carry their last game of the season. There are four Vikings games they will not be able to show, as the kickoff collides with Packers coverage.
Vikings games will also appear on WFRV twice this season, once on NBC Sunday Night Football on WGBA, and ESPN's Monday Night Football twice.
