LIN TV bribing customers to switch to Dish Network in some markets?

LIN TV, parent company of WLUK, has been in the news a lot recently. Seems they just can't go a day without getting into some sort of retransmission-content scuffle with a cable company somewhere. Nothing particularly newsworthy... until this little tidbit.

According to Multichannel News, as a way to stick it to cable companies that don't pay their requested fees, LIN TV and Dish Network are teaming up to offer $50 gift cards to new Dish customers in markets where existing LIN stations aren't available on cable.

“Dish Network recognizes how important local stations are in the market, and we are pleased to provide an incentive for viewers to watch LIN TV’s premium local news, sports and entertainment programming on our satellite TV systems,” EchoStar senior vice president Eric Sahl said.

What do you think of this?  Strongarm bully tactics by a local broadcaster or positive boon for consumers?
