Dish Threatens To Drop The Weather Channel
Dish wants to replace it with its own, new weather station...

Yet another month, yet another instance of broadcasters bickering with cable, satellite or telcoTV operators over carriage fees. This time around it's Dish Network, who is fighting The Weather Channel rates by announcing yesterday they would be dropping The Weather Channel and replacing it with its own new 24-hour weather station, The Weather Cast.
The plan was to drop TWC last night at midnight, but as of today Dish stated the channel would remain on the air -- for now -- as the two sides continue to negotiate. Estimates suggest TWC receives about twelve cents per subscriber from TV operators. Should Dish still decide to drop TWC, the satellite company insists their own, new weather station is "the best available weather service in America," given that "customers always tell us that the only thing they want in a weather channel is weather reporting."
