The opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics are tonight, and both AT&T U-Verse and Time Warner Cable are rolling out their respective Olympics offerings today to give their viewers more access to the Games.
This year, Time Warner Cable has HD versions of all of NBC Universal's networks carrying the games, which include NBC HD, USA HD, MSNBC HD, CNBC HD and Universal HD. In addition to the live Olympics coverage, Time Warner is making Olympics content available on-demand on Sports on Demand (channel 413) and HD Showcase on Demand (channel 450). Time Warner says it will offer "more than 100 highlight clips, approximately 15 per day, in addition to up to five full-length daily event replays." Time Warner customers will also have the ability to catch up with programming they've joined in-progress with Start over on USA, USA HD, MSNBC and CNBC.
“We are really pleased to be offering our customers NBC’s extensive coverage of the 2010 Olympic Games,” said Tom Adams, Time Warner Cable Regional Vice President Operations. “Customers will be able to access this incredible content through several of our platforms, including high definition video, On Demand content and broadband coverage.”
AT&T is offering its customers a dedicated NBC Universal Olympics application for free starting today. The highlight of the application is the ability to watch up to four different NBC Universal channels at once and switch between them, but it is not known how this multiview feature would impact DVR recordings or other TV viewers in the household. The app will also provide athlete bios, event schedules, and the latest headlines and medal counts straight from Vancouver," according to AT&T. The app is available on channel 85.
