Time Warner digital cable, DVR customers urged to prepare for coming Navigator rollout
Time Warner Cable is getting the word out to Northeast Wisconsin that their new set-top software platform, known as Navigator, is coming soon to living rooms everywhere. While news outlets have been reporting today that the change will happen over the next few weeks, we've heard unconfirmed rumors that the shift could happen region-wide as early as early tomorrow morning.
As happened with Time Warner's recent mass channel number change, the cable operator is urging customers to check their set-top digital boxes and DVRs in advance of the Navigator launch, should any snafus occur. Time Warner is mailing out notices to customers and posting them to their website, giving several precautionary steps to do before Navigator lands to make sure your transition is smooth.
It is highly recommended that customers write down their settings, favorites and recordings now, so if problems arise, you can more easily reset your settings.

No Navigator in Howard this
No Navigator in Howard this morning......
Really thought it was going
Really thought it was going to go down this morning, since there were a handful of local news outlets running stories about it on the same day, but alas, no Navigator.
I will get to check it out early tomorrow morning at TWC's office so hopefully I'll have a bit of a review tomorrow.
I heard from an insider it
I heard from an insider it was supposed to roll out today, but I unplugged and rebooted my Explorer and no Navigator for me yet.
I rebooted both HD DVRs today
I rebooted both HD DVRs today and nothing. I had heard that they are doing it in stages, and if you have different types of boxes in a home, one may update well before the other. I only have the HD DVRs so I don't know if that's the case. I am getting a demo of Navigator at Time Warner's office tomorrow afternoon, so I guess I'll find out tomorrow what's up.
Looks like DVRs will get
Looks like DVRs will get upgraded sometime next week. Will post more when I know more.
This new DVR so called
This new DVR so called upgrade is terrible. They took a step backwards! The fast forward and rewind is slower for starters. When you stop fast forwarding or rewinding it goes to a different spot. The programming is confusing. There is no "skip to end" anymore. You can't program by going forward through the channels anymore. There are many other issues with it. They wanted to update the look and they made it much harder and the technology went backward. I use my DVR everyday so it is a big deal. I have made the decision to leave Time Warner over this because there were other issues with things not recording and my cable being glitchy. I have always loved the customer service so I am sad we have to leave. In the end I can't put up with the day to day problems.
Couple tips I've learned that
Couple tips I've learned that could help you out.. I pride myself on being very quick on the remote too, but it looks like this new system is built for those a bit slower and it's actually great for FF through commercials. When you actually see the program and hit play, you get the tail end of the last commercial. Just teach yourself to pause a second and you'll end up in the right spot. You can also try to pause/play and it doesn't try to accomodate for slower trigger fingers, but I just learned to adjust. It's really not that hard.
On the skip to end - if you hold down the FF button, it starts to skip in larger time increments.
I think it's great - love the new search feature!
