With little fanfare, Time Warner Cable slipped in a new addition to its HD lineup today.
CBS College Sports HD is now available on channel 1322.
The channel is part of Time Warner's digital sports package. However, it is reportedly appearing for non-subscribers of the sports package as of Tuesday evening.

I've noticed that whenever
I've noticed that whenever TWC adds a new HD channel that is outside of my SD package, for the first day or two I can view the HD version of the channel even though I can't get the SD version. This new CBS Sports channel followed that same pattern- could view it on day one- now I get the "call this number to subscribe" message I get on all channels that are outside of my subscription.
I recently switched back to TWC from Dish. Made the switch back for economic reasons and the fact that Dish didn't always play nice with my Sony LocationFree set up (a forum topic for another day perhaps).
Anyway, I've been much happier overall this time with TWC's TV service- more HD then when I was a customer last and they seem to have gotten a handle on their switched digital video problems I was having before.
But TWCs set top box software is still far inferior compared to Dish. How that sort of relates to this topic is that with Dish I could easily choose to view only the channels I was subbed to on my onscreen TV guide. And more importantly, I could set up favorite lists that would only show the channels I regularly watched via on my onscreen TV guide- so I wouldn't have to scroll through channels like QVC, Speed, Fox Reality, etc. to see what was on. I really, really, really wish I could do this with my TWC box, but if there's a way to do that I haven't figured it out yet.
They must be trying to tease
They must be trying to tease you into upgrading your HD package by letting you see the channel for a short while hoping you get hooked.
I believe TWC had a Favorites list when I had them a year ago. At least on the DVR. I believe there was a "FAV" button on the center of the remote and you had to setup the list in the "settings" menu.
It wasn't anywhere near a fancy as other providers and I think it only would scroll/change to your next favorite channel each time you pressed the button.
Not sure if it's a tease, an
Not sure if it's a tease, an oversight corrected or a function of their system. I know in past whenever I've had new Time Warner service hooked up, EVERYTHING was open for about a day after that, then it would be locked down to what I subscribed to. Not sure if it's still that way. If I remember right, this also occurred with some of the other recent HD additions.
I think it is a tease. Just
I think it is a tease. Just like when you sign up for new TV service with any provider and they "give" you HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax for free for 3 months. They are hoping like them and you keeping paying for them. Same thing when they remove encryption on certain channels hoping you upgrade to keep that channel when they remove it.
