For the third week in a row, Time Warner Cable has quietly graced its customers with new HD channels, but this time the good news comes times three.
Yesterday, Time Warner Cable Wisconsin launched high-definition versions of AMC (channel 1277), BBC America (channel 1225) and BIO (Channel 1140). AMC HD is available to standard cable customers with a digital cable box, while BBC America HD and BIO HD are only available to those with the Digital Variety package.
Time Warner has been rolling out at least two new HD channels each week for the past three weeks, and more channels are coming before year's end, presumably on Thursdays if the past pattern holds.

On a side note, I watched a
On a side note, I watched a bit of "The Green Mile" last night, and a couple minutes of "The Story of Us" this morning on AMC HD. While "The Green Mile" looked fantastic in HD, "The Story of Us" looked terrible. I'm guessing it was upconverted, and poorly at that. There was a ton of blocking and motion artifacts, and it almost looked like a streaming YouTube video poorly encoded.
I checked these channels
I checked these channels tonite at about 10:00. I thought the quality was excellent, the closed captioning was in sync, and I think these are good additions to the TWC HD line-up. I wish they'd put the Weather Channel HD on, too. If we want our " Local on the 8's ", we can go to
Ch 28 at those times. I've seen this channel in HD from different providers and it is first class all the way.
The next 2 HD channels will
The next 2 HD channels will be Outdoor HD, and Fox Business HD
Not too terribly impressive
Not too terribly impressive channels. I'd rather see something with more substance added. These will probably be followed by shopping channels and EWTN.
IMPORTANT TWC HD channels.

I'm getting pretty happy with the HD Channels that their going to have after this group.
If this proves true -- and
If this proves true -- and most I know are by their legal notices in the newspaper -- it definitely makes their lineup more robust and better than it used to be, but it's missing a few key channels.
1) The Viacom HD channels, like Comedy Central, Spike, etc. After such an ugly public contract feud as they had, you'd think the HD channels would have come with the deal. BIG omission in my book. Both satellite and AT&T have them, so they are necessary to compete.
2) HDNet and HDNet Movies. Obviously they used to have them but dropped them. While I'm not a huge fan of HDNet, I enjoyed a lot of the movies on HDNet Movies.
3) More than one premium HD feed per network. The HBO or Showtime packages would be even better if they offered a few of the ancillary channels in HD.
4) NFL Network / NFL RedZone. OK, longshot here. Obviously the two sides are perpetually at odds, but sooner or later there has to be a deal. Both sides are being pigheaded on the matter.
