I purchased a DTVPalDVR from Dish Network in February 09'. It is actually an Echostar Technologies L.L.C., FC Model ID032.

It died in mid September 09'. Dish Network refuses to replace it or repair it even for a fee. I am now told it had only 90 day warranty which was not obvious at the time of purchase. I contacted EchoStar the original marketing outfit for the DTVPalDVR under the TR-50 model name.

and pretty much I was ignored completely.
When it worked it did so very nicely.
Any suggestions on how to proceed to get it fixed.
I found the problem on Nov 20. It was the AC cord's plug at the wall.

I have heard of this many times. I am keeping my fingers crossed as we have had no problems with ours. How did it die? Perhaps just the hard drive went bad?
AVS forum has over 100 forum pages dedicated to the DTVPal DVR. you could try there. Let me know how it goes though...my guess would first be a hard drive.

One day in mid September the power on light simply did not turn on. The remote still worked just fine on the TV. Icalled Dish and they had me go through a whole bunch of steps including unplugging power waiting 60 seconds, steps are in the manual. Could it be the remote? what's a good way to rule it out. It would really be a riot if it was simply the remote. You would think that the customer service folks would be able to conduct enough experiments over the phone to isolate that problem.
Are there any other OTA schemes available or do I need to buy a card for my computer and a much bigger drive.

Markus, Which firmware
Markus,
Which firmware version do you have? I read that the "death loop" has been fixed with FW version 208 (which I have). Perhaps a FW download can fix it?

I had been getting downloads
I had been getting downloads periodically. Without a power on light I don't think it can refresh its memory or download anything.
I probably should have written down the software version periodically.
I do not have automated
I do not have automated downloads. I have read that this feature causes lockups, so I turned it off in the menu.
Spend some time and go through all of your menu items. You can look at the info screen and it will tell you the firmware version. You will see several digits followed by F206 or something. The current version is F208.
I have also read of people who accidentally hit the wrong button on their remote, rendering it useless for controlling the DTVpal DVR. If this is the case for you, simply press the button farthest left at the very top of the remote. This is the "pal" button with the black ring around it. If you indeed pressed one of the other source buttons, this should restore use of your remote with the DVR.
I hope this helps.
