That is crazy that you
That is crazy that you receive WJFW out of Rhinelander. Let alone at 75-80%. It doesn't surprise me that you receive that Wausau channels based on where you live and your setup. ABC, CBS, PBS are on top of the ski hill in the state park which is a brand new antenna. Fox has their own brand new antenna NE out of town.
Well, over the last week, I
Well, over the last week, I have had problems during the day with WJFW. Mainly with the rain we have been getting. When conditions are clear, however, I am still getting 65-80%, and at night after sundown it is as high as 95%.
Last night we watched the World Swimming Championships and yesterday I watched Table Tennis for a while. This morning bicycle BMX is on.

Here's a pic of the tower.
Here's a pic of the tower. there is another antenna in the attic. If you look closely there are 4 antennas on the tower. One is a small channel 16 antenna pointed away from the camera.

Sean, Actually, the channel
Sean,
Actually, the channel 7 and 9 antennas are mounted on the same "candelabra" antenna tower they were on previously, with PBS being the 3rd antenna. Fox installed a new antenna (the old one was channel 55, the new one is channel 31) on the same tower. ION channel 46 is also on the Fox 55 tower. PBS may have installed a new antenna (channel 24 to replace channel 20) but I never saw one erected. I am in wausau weekdays and actually look for that sort of stuff :-) .
Rhinelander is a stretch, but I can also receive Park Falls PBS as well as ABC 34 (rebroadcast of WAOW channel 9). At night, tropo brings me most Madison stations as well as channel 8 LaCrosse and channel 13 out of Eau Claire.
I have recieved many Milwaukee stations and have even seen brief glimpses of Michigan and Cleveland Ohio!
Really though, I am not a DXer...I just want to get all of my 2 market locals. Any more is hard due to adjacent and co-channel interference.

I actually live in Wausau
I actually live in Wausau now and you would be correct except ION is actually a separate antenna about a 1/4 mile east of the Fox antenna.
Do you receive the Eau
Do you receive the Eau Claire stations? How about Marquette? If I added on to the tower (antennas...not height!), I can get channel 8 out of La Crosse and 13 out of Eau Claire. Some of the Madison stations are fairly easy also. My favorite was always the WNMU PBS station out of Marquette. I have not even attempted it since I did the final aiming on my current antennas.
Wausau would be an awesome place for OTA...if you are on the correct side of the hill!
Bill
EDIT: Are you sure about WTPX's antenna? The FCC lists their antenna as the same site and same tower # as WFXS. Just wondering.
Not right now, I am living
Not right now, I am living in a rental duplex so I don't have access to a roof top antenna. With rabbit ears I am only picking up ABC, CBS, WPT, and FOX. Not even a hint of any other channels. I live in Mosinee so I have at least 3 large hills in direct line of sight of Eau Claire and Rhinelander. Last year I was living in a temporary apartment on the NW side of Wausau. With only rabbit ears I could get ABC, CBS, WPT,and FOX. NBC was a bit low in signal but generally came in good. I could see traces of other channels like the Eau Claire stations but no picture. I would say that if you get out of town in a NW direction you would find some premium places for OTA. It tends to be higher land with little obstructions. NE might not be bad either. I am 98% sure ION and Fox are separate towers. Everything online seems to say they are one tower but if you go out there you will find two different towers that are almost identical. I also talked to the owner of Advanced Tower Climbing Service a while back and I believe he said they are separate too.
You don't see the translator
You don't see the translator station for NBC on channel 27? I know we can not get it at the office but we are in the middle of a heavily wooded area with very tall trees.
Bill
Don't see 27 at all. Which
Don't see 27 at all. Which is weird because it would appear that it should be on top of the ski hill. I also realized that of the two places I have lived in the Wausau area I have never received ION OTA. Not sure why. Might do some tinkering tomorrow to see if anything is going on with my end. I have Direct TV (Charter is horrible) so in a way it doesn't really matter I guess.
I did a little research today and it looks like ION and Fox are separate towers. Davis TV is listed for the western tower and ION, NRG Media and Cellcom are listed for the eastern tower.
I would love some advice on
I would love some advice on picking up WLUK 11 in Appleton. Seems to be a common malady here. My indoor rabbit ear/loop amplified antenna ($30) works perfectly for everything else (I have a newer 1080P Toshiba Regza TV).
I know 11 went back to VHF. I have an older antenna on my roof which I tried hooking up last night - note I haven't bought an amplifier for it yet and again, almost all the other stations came in but not WLUK. Any suggestions on getting this to work?
Wondering if your rooftop
Wondering if your rooftop antenna is UHF only? I had a big Radio Shack roof antenna that was only UHF, so that may be it. Do you receive WLUK at all on the indoor antenna (poorly, if nothing else)? I had a cheaper non-amplified indoor antenna similar to yours and my main issue was with WLUK. I picked it up but not at all strong enough to be watchable.
If you have an amplified VHF
If you have an amplified VHF antenna, turn off the amplification and try rescanning again. Amplifying may make the signal too strong and cause your digital converter box or HDTV to interpret it as "no signal."
If after rescanning, you still don't see the channel, you should try resetting your digital converter box or HDTV. On some this is a menu setting. On other models there is a button on the back that you have to press.
What is your approximate location?
Sean, I picked up ION last
Sean,
I picked up ION last winter during late nights to mid-mornings, then it went dark. I am wondering if they are off air or if they went low power. I know they have financial problems and are looking to be sold (Pax does not have the financial woes, but the individual station I heard was not doing well).
Also, I believe that the translater station channel 27 is on the small tower on top of Mosinee Hill.
Bill
That would make sense. I
That would make sense. I thought it was odd that I never have seen ION show up. I believe you may be right on Mosinee Hill being the location of the tower for 27. I found a map (http://media.myfoxwausau.com/Special/MAP.pdf) on Fox 55's site for the towers in my area. I will have to take a better look at the towers on the hill when I go to work tomorrow.
Eric, Where do you live
Eric,
Where do you live (exactly, if possible)?
Go to Google Earth and set it up (in the options) to show lattitude and longitude in decimal degrees. Put the arrow on your house and write down the L & L that is shown on the bottom of the map (be exact!)
Go to tvfool.com and click on "Start Maps". Use the coordinates (not the address) and the height of your antenna above the ground. This will give you a good idea of your signal strengths OUTDOORS and show you exactly where to aim your antenna.
It works. I use it to perfectly aim at stations up to 125 miles away. It works!!!
If you have problems or questions, simply cut the address of the final page of your tvfool.com report and paste it on a post in this thread and I will try to help. My guess is that you are close to the towers and are not aimed correctly. For me...I am 38 miles west of the towers and there is a 5 degree difference in my aim for the center of the UHF towers and the VHF channel 11 tower. Channel 11 is farther north (as is channel 38) and if you are in Kaukauna or closer, this could mean a large difference in where you aim the antenna.
