WLUK HD problems caused by 'a hole in a pipe' after a weekend ice storm

Ice Storm

If it's not one thing, it's another.

This weekend's ice storm has caused the second physical impairment in the span of a month to WLUK's digital transmitter.  According to station GM Jay Zollar in an interview with the Green Bay Press Gazette this afternoon, the cause of the digital transmitter's problems in the past two days stems from ice damage at the tower.

"A chunk of ice fell off the tower in the ice storm the other day and dented a pipe someplace, and we believe there is a hole in the pipe someplace," Zollar says.

A temporary fix will continue to be used to keep the signal running, but if it fails, a tower crew will be dispatched to inspect the damage, according to the article.

Weather-related outages are not uncommon for Wisconsin broadcasters.  Last February, WFRV experienced problems with its analog transmitter after freezing and thawing cracked a seal and burned out a transmission line, taking the signal off the air for several days.

seems to me WLUK worked better before the blackout a few months ago, customers paying more money for LINTV and now the service issues start - coincidence heh?

They can't get their HD

They can't get their HD signal from the studio out to the transmitter. The receiver line at the tower is what's compromised.

Since they are moving their digital back to the old tower on Feb. 18, what are the chances they shut down analog early? Let the betting begin...

Well if they cant get the

Well if they cant get the Digital feed back and running b4 the analog shut off, they wont be shutting of sooner.. If they do they will cause another black out of their choosing.. And if they dont fix it b4 Feb 17, WLUK will go black again.. Either way WLUK is in a world of hurt right now..

And to those above.. I agree, this is weird that since the TWC black out theyve been having many issues.. This would be the 3rd to my count..
