The MLB Network launches January 1st. I'm excited that they are finally putting out a network and that they actually did it right unlike the likes of NFL, NHL and Big Ten that were not available to all of the major cable/satellite providers. The reason the network will be available to all providers is they were all given ownership share in the network. Does anyone think this method (giving ownership share) would help other athletic conferences and sports (like NASCAR) in launching their own channel and not have this goofy war that seems to spark between cable and new networks?

Meh...I'm a huge baseball
Meh...I'm a huge baseball fan, but I'm not a fan of single sports networks.
The problem with the NFL Network is not it's availability, it's that it's programming is lacking. The broadcast team they use for games is terrible, 80% of the games they show live are terrible games with little national interest, and 80% or more of the shows they produce and show when they are not are not showing live games are terrible.
I'm not sure what a MLB network is going to offer that I don't already get with "This Week in Baseball" and the ESPN, Fox, TBS, and WGN games.
I'd be much more excited if MLB would work out deals to offer their HD package of all games to more providers and would kill some of their antiquated blackout restrictions.

Meanwhile, a new sports channel is of interest to a number of callers. Time Warner adds the new MLB Network when it launches Jan. 1. Southeast Wisconsin digital cable subscribers will find it at Channel 122. For Northeast Wisconsin subscribers, it's Channel 107.
