For Christmas, this sounds more like finding a lump of coal in the sock ! I imagine there are countless HD subscribers overjoyed with the upcoming SKI Channel. Let's also add a few others like shopping channels, EWTN, CSPN, and other similar in-demand, highly-watched shows. This is getting to be like an already picked-over rummage sale...........not too much left here. " Home of the FREE HD "..........who would PAY for this ? Is this our reward for the rate increase ? Bah, Humbug !!

I didn't refer to Directv,
I didn't refer to Directv, uVerse, Verizon, etc, because I don't have any of those providers. I have Time Warner. We have a rate increase from them. My comment was intended to say that after an increase in rates, we end up with a "NEW" HD channel that most viewers will have little interest in. With the increase, we should be receiving channels like USA HD, Sci-Fi HD, or even the Weather Channel HD. Won't "caving" be exciting to watch? Like watching paint dry.

It's not an HD channel. It may not even be a "channel" at all. It may be strictly VOD, but I'm not certain.
I think, though don't know for certain, that Time Warner still hasn't locked up a renewed agreement with NBC Universal and that may be why we don't have USA, SciFi, etc. in HD... at least that was the case the last time I perused their legal notices.

Hmm, everyone else raises prices, i.e., the grocery stores and you don't complain about that...all companies fixed costs are rising. i don't see what the problem is. if you want a cheap bill tell the station owners to stop being greedy. i thought the prices per channel printed in the post crescent were very interesting. as for hd who cares? its not like its a huge difference. nothing is broadcasted in 1080i so you just got taken by your salesman. wait for the service to catch up to the EQ. then if you aren't getting enough hd channels you can complain. hd is not the mainstream. think.

Cable companies, as a whole, are raising prices substancially and lowering service. People DO complain about groceries and gasoline. But groceries go up in price due to higher costs of production, processing and distribution. Cable providers already have infrastructure in place and they have equipment replacement schedules and budgets. A price increase due to "greedy station owners" is way off base. Local stations have had retransmission agreements for over a decade. They also have "must carry" protection. The reason that WLUK dragged out for so long is because TWC knew that several other locals have retrans agreements coming due shortly and WLUK would "set the bar" for future negotiations.
Many stations broadcast in 1080i. Stations that I receive that currently broadcast in 1080i include WFRV (5), WIWB (14), and WGBA (26) in Green Bay as well as WSAW (7) out ov Wausau. HD is the mainstream. Over 34% of all U.S. households now have a high definition television compared with 13% only a year ago. Within 15 months the number will swell to over 50% and by 2013, nearly 90% according to several sources.
