my uverse install
Ok on friday I had my install date tech showed up about 8:45.
By 9 he decided the old wiring to the pole had to be replaced I figured ok that the end of getting it installed today but he said no the line crew will be there within 2 hours and he would work on wiring the house end up
So he puts up the 2wire box in the house runs new cable over to my splitter for my cable replaces the splitter runs the new wire for the phone line and puts the box outside
they show up and have the new line to the pole run in no time check the line signal all ok
He has to run back and get a battery backup he forgot to bring now when i got charter they wnated extra for a backup battery and the tech when i mentioned that said fcc regulations require it so not sure about that
so everything now done in basement he hooks up the 3 boxes i got and has me boot he pc up hwile he doing the boxes i have the pc up type in the network keyand pc up and running sign up was easy for the email and stuff
tv wont work with my hdmi cable for some reason but he plugs a new one in and it works why the cable that worked 15 min before with charter wont now i have no clue
so total install time was about 5 hours including the running back to pick stuff up
picture I think is way better then my charter was it is clearer and colors are more vivid I havent really gone to many hd channels yet but i will today
phone seems to work great although i took a new number didnt want to pay extra to transfer my old one no big deal i guess the on screen caller id features dont work yet he said it should be within a few weeks i always loved that feature when i had directv
dvr seems easier to use and program and the guide is much nicer can block out ones u dont want and make fav lists of channels
internet i upgraded to the 3gb one to keep at least close to charters speed
so far even with the 3 gb it appears faster then charter or at the least the same
i have to figure out how to hook up my print server into the network it was hooked up thru my old wireless router
so far im happy with switching i figure i got the month free i will try it out
any questions or want pics of the install let me know i can try to answer them

As for switching channels,
As for switching channels, is it faster/slower than charter? i have dish and looking for something better. I also agree that the 3mb internet is faster through ATT then Charter.
chanel switching to me seems
chanel switching to me seems to be alot faster then charter also i the guide takes some getting used to but it is easier to use
right now i have both and if i switch over to the charter internet and compare it seems att is faster not sure why maybe because the upload speed is 2 times as fast as charter
so far i am glad i switched alot more features u can use on att has spam filtering for your email which u would never see charter offer
I can't attest to Charter's
I can't attest to Charter's channel changing speed, but U-Verse is much snappier than Time Warner. I think TWC's lag time has to do with the switched digital video system they're using to increase capacity, and a little bit to do with the receiver. There is a noticeable lag between channels, with some worse than others. For example, if I change from a basic/standard channel to a HD channel, or between one HD channel and another. Sometimes if I go too fast, it feels like the receiver and/or the guide freezes and has to play catch-up.
From my test experience with U-Verse, channel changing is pretty close to instantaneous. They market this point in some of their promotional materials, actually.
The guide difference between
The guide difference between Time Warner and AT&T is absolutely night and day. Like I've said before, AT&T's Media Center-based guide makes TWC's guide look like 1980's DOS in comparison. It will take some getting used to, but once you do, it's so much easier to use and navigate. Being able to go from a grid guide to a channel-by-channel lineup style guide is fantastic, the info seems better and there's more "a-ha!" features like searching off actors' names and things like that. Even the picture-in-picture window that comes up when you're cycling through channels makes the experience so much nicer.
I know TWC was supposed to be rolling out their in-house "Navigator" software sometime this year that's supposed to be akin to it, but the Microsoft-based guide AT&T is using is very refined.
Br1an. Now that you had
Br1an. Now that you had u-verse for a few days how has it been working for you?
has been working perfect so
has been working perfect so far only hiccup i noticed was on the phone and im not sure if it was on the persons cell phone i was talking to seemed tinny and echoing
but i have had it a week and no complaints yet
I'm a week in as well and
I'm a week in as well and feel the same as br1an....I couldn't be happier I switched from TWC. U-verse was a good move.
I just had U-verse installed
I just had U-verse installed today and so far I am liking what I see. The internet seems very responsive and I do not notice the occasional lag that I did with TWC. I haven't had much of a chance to watch the HD channels but just flipping through things seemed to be pretty go. Hopefully tonight I will have some time to sit down with it. The total install time took about 4 hours and that included the occasional chatting with the tech.
