Wanted to get people's thoughts on WFRV's using the empty sidebars of their 16x9 HD picture for weather information during their newscasts.
I, for one, am glad they're starting to use their high-def CG to fill out the frame, even if they're not shooting news in HD.

For as long as it took to get that thing launched, I was pretty disappointed. Not that impressive. Better than the last set, but not worth the price paid.

I like it too. Very interesting. My only gripe would be to move both pillarboxes together on one side and use it for other things like CNBC HD or The Weather Channel HD.

The only thing about them is that there is no explanation of what the display means. Are they current weather conditions, or tomorrow's forecast? Some sort of title would be very helpful.
That being said, I think it's a move in the right direction to use the screen space effectively. Also, weather info is much better than ads in those columns!

I got a look at it tonight and thought it was a very good use of space. I would rather see the tv stations fill the whole screen with the program they are showing. They do that with some shows and some ads, why can't they always do it?
