Did anyone else notice the new scroll for WFRV this morning? Looks to be in HD! Which means no more flipping to SD to broadcast a scroll, and one step closer HD local news. Nice job WFRV!

teenbean2: digitaldean - I just hooked my outdoor antenna to the existing cable junction box that is mounted outside the box. I unscrewed the Time Warner Cable and hooked my cable to the cable wire going into...

Keith: It looks good to me. Obviously a great improvement over what it was. I like the colors, the bug on the right with the simple temp and time, the panning out, and the text scroll at the bottom....

TvBoy: Damn,
For as long as it took to get that thing launched, I was pretty disappointed. Not that impressive. Better than the last set, but not worth the price paid.

Didn't notice it this
Didn't notice it this morning but will have to DVR it tomorrow morning to see for myself. Hopefully they'll be the first to use full 16:9 screen during newscasts (whether or not they actually go HD).
It always seemed to me like WGBA and WLUK had that ability too, as they could put their station logos in the corner of the 16:9 frame, and WGBA can flash an on-screen top-of-the-hour legal ID over the HD picture on some shows. Who knows. Maybe they have the new equipment and are just taking baby steps until the digital switch happens.
Glad you noticed, bbqman!
Glad you noticed, bbqman! WFRV & WJMN converted its master controls to an HD room mid-last week. That includes HD character generators.. hence the 16x9 morning show ticker.
We began running Oprah in HD last week Thursday, The Price Is Right in HD on Monday, Entertainment Tonight-HD yesterday, and I am watching Ellen in HD today! We are very excited to have the ability to record and play these shows in HD for both WFRV and WJMN.
This was an important engineering step.. and will hopefully lead to bigger (and wider) things to come. :-)

Thanks Tom!
Appreciate the info on this. Any plans to go HD with local production and/or news?
I'm going to be posting a front-page story about this in the near future. If there's anything else you want to add to it, shoot me an email at mark@foxcitiestv.com. I appreciate you stopping over here and letting us know!
HD programs & commercials
HD programs & commercials aside, we should be able to launch separate hd weather map & crawl systems for WFRV and WJMN very shortly. No more upconverted programming just for a freeze watch!!! :-)
Good deal! Looking forward

Thanks Tom for the info! We truly appreciate your dedication to the picture quality of your station! Will you be able to produce different freeze watch warning locations for SD and HD feeds? As an example, will the freeze watch warning be in the lower righthand corner of an HD program or will it be in the "SD Safe" location in the middle right of the picture?
Watching Entertainment
Watching Entertainment Tonight in HD. Looks fantastic!
We are running full HD, then
We are running full HD, then downconverting and center-cutting for the analog channel. So until at least Feb., our graphics have to be in the 4x3 space. But we DID manage separate weather systems for WFRV and WJMN.. so the maps should be channel-appropriate instead of channel-agnostic.
WLUK must have new graphics
WLUK must have new graphics now. There was severe weather during Idol last night and my HD didn't shrink!!!
