New DirecTV update last night for 1080p

Last night I recieved an update to my DirecTV HD-DVR. Once the load was done and I hit List on my Remote it brought up the new features.

Help With Antenna on HDTV??

People, if you have an HDTV you can get the HD feed with an antenna. I didn't want to wait to get mine from TWC, so I made one. I used the following items below.

1 piece of wood 2feet in lenth
12 screws and washers
3feet of stereo wire (I say extra in case something happens when stipping the plastic off)
4 wire clothes hangers
1 UHF/VHF Transformer (pick up at Walmart around $2.00)
1 magnet (this I took from a old phone receiver)
1 sheet sandpaper

It's a pretty sweet setup. It may not look pretty as an antenna but the picture quality on my HDTV is AMAZING!!!!

Now if you have an antenna from TWC or any antenna, all you have to do it connect the transformer to the end of the antenna and then hook it up to the coax connection on your tv. Then (probably need your TV manual) go through the antenna setup wizard in your HDTV. Have the HDTV scan for channels. Once it has scanned you'll be able to receive all the local HD feeds. Most likely you'll get the following channels.

2.1 - WBAY
2.2 - WBAY Weather Channel
2.3 - WBAY Retro Channel
5.1 - WFRV
11.1 - WLUK
26.1 - WGBA
32.1
38.1 - PBS
38.2 - WIS
38.3

I hope this helps.

U-Verse question

Mark, what do you make of this?

Taken from

AT&T High Speed Internet Terms of Service / att.net Terms of Use

"In order to provide a consistently high-quality video service, AT&T Uverse High Speed Internet throughput speeds may be temporarily reduced when a customer is using other U-verse services in a manner that requires high bandwidth. This could occur more often with higher speed Internet access products. It may be necessary, for some AT&T High Speed Internet users, for AT&T to set a maximum downstream speed on a customer line to enhance the reliability and consistency of performance. While this performance optimization process will prevent some customers from obtaining the maximum downstream speed capability, service capability speed will not be set lower than the service tier you have purchased."

Looks like there trying to cover their butts. It sounds like they are saying, watch HD shows and your internet will slow down.

Time Warner to add six HD channels to N.E. Wisconsin before end of May

By month end Time Warner will add 6 new HD channels. They are Discovery HD, Food Network HD, MHD, Disney HD, ABC Family HD and ESPN News HD. More are scheduled in June and July. This is some welcome news.

Editor's Note:  The Green Bay Press-Gazette has confirmed the addition of six channels.

More Brewers HD Games in 2008 [UPDATE 1]

It appears that FSN Wisconsin HD is dramatically increasing the amount of Brewers games in HD this year.

From 17 in 2007 to roughly 80 this year. Here are the two sources I found this info. If this is accurate I am going to be one happy Brewers fan and an even happier HD fan.

More Crew Coverage
HD on the Rise in 2008

One of the main topics HD enthusiasts discuss is the amount of HD channels. The questions are when are we going to get more, what medium gives us the most cable or dish? Well something that normally flies under the radar is when more HD content/programming is added to the channels we already have. Well this basically means an almost worthless channel before is now going to be my most watched HD channel during the next 6 months. That is huge!

[UPDATE 1 -- 3/23/08The Capital Times is now reporting that FSN Wisconsin has confirmed that 65 games this season will be televised in HD, roughly half its total 2007 baseball schedule, including many away games.  The first game is a opening day, a week from Monday, at the Chicago Cubs.  Copied below is the HD schedule The Times printed, however FSN says to watch their MySpace page (which is totally empty at the time of this writing) for further updates on their HD schedule.  The schedule on the Brewers' own website also has distinctions on which games are and are not in HD.  -- Mark]
